SBA Veterans Advantage Loan Program

SBA Veterans Advantage, beginning January 1, 2014 and continuing through September 30, 2015, is intended to facilitate lending to veteran-owned small businesses so that they have the tools they need to start and grow their businesses.

To Qualify:

Businesses must be 51% or more owned and controlled by an individual or individuals in one or more of the following groups:

  • Veterans (other thank dishonorably discharged)
  • Service-Disabled Veterans;
  • Active Duty Military service member participating in the military’s Transition Assistance Program (TAP);
  • Reservists and National Guard members; or
  • Current spouse of any Veteran, Active Duty service member, or any Reservist or National Guard member; or widowed spouse of a service member who died while in service or of a service-connected disability.

Guaranty Fees for SBA Veterans Advantage in FY2015:

  1. The up-front guaranty fee on SBA Express loans of $150,001 to $350,000 approved to qualified small businesses (see below) will continue to be 0% through FY2015.

  2. ‚ÄčThe up-front guaranty fee for non-SBA Express 7(a) loans of $150,001 up to and including $5,000,000 approved to qualified small businesses (see below) will be reduced by 50%, as follows:

    • For loans with a maturity in excess of 12 months:

      • For loans of $150,001 to $700,000: 1.5% of the guaranteed portion;

      • For loans of $700,001 to $5,000,000: 1.75% of the guaranteed portion up to $1,000,000 PLUS 1.875% of the guaranteed portion over $1,000,000;

      • For loans with a maturity of 12 months or less: 0.125% of the guaranteed portion.

There is no reduction in the Lender’s annual service fee for loans over $150,000. Lenders are also reminded of existing policy that any multiple of 7(a) loans made within 90 days of one another are considered as one loan for the purpose of determining the guaranty amount and guaranty fees.
